A FEW THOUGHTS ON LEGACY

Several years ago the men of the Weatherford tribe when on a great adventure. We went into the ancient hunting grounds of the Creek Native Nation. Our goal was to find the grave site of our famous relative….William Henry Weatherford…also know as Red Eagle. We drove for what seemed like…forever until we found a historical marker. The marker lead us down a worn pig trail of a path to a spacious place carved out of the primeval forest. The state of Alabama had build a very nice park where we found the grave of our famous forefather. My brother, David, is a history professor, so he began telling the story of Red Eagle. He told of his courage facing Andrew Jackson and the armies of the USA. He told of daring escapes, selfless sacrifice ,and standing in spite of the odds to care for his people.

Who knew? Not many. As the years unfold my family might trek through the woods to find my grave. What stories will they tell. How will my life be framed in legend and lore.

MY CHALLENGE IS TO LIVE IN SUCH A WAY THAT JESUS

IS FAMOUS BECAUSE I WILL NOT BE.

The truth is that no one will remember me…if some do, it will be precious few. My challenge is to live in such a way that Jesus is famous because I will not be. No one will know me but will they know Jesus because of me? When I realize that my life is to be lived for the glory of God everything changes. This is what I was made for….all for Jesus!
